I think of this concept applied to the rich history of jazz, listen, respect and learn from those that preceded you. The great trumpeter Clark Terry used to say, "emulate, assimilate, innovate". Composed during the pandemic these original compositions illustrate my mindset and emotions. Though happy to be laser focused, nonetheless it was a trying period in midtown NYC. I leaned on the great jazz icons of the past for inspiration.
